(March 22, 1935 – March 19, 2024)
The film’s biggest downside was simple: many of the characters in this film are hyper-exaggerated to the point where you can’t take them seriously. For example, Brendan Fraser, despite being a Hollywood icon with some great movies. under his belt, he was crazy about it.
I blame this misstep on the film’s tone setter, director Max Barbakow
His character had a cartoonish, exaggerated, somewhat childish behavior pattern that just wasn’t believable. This was a massive step back from his most recent film “Palm Springs”; which was quite nice. The relationship between Brolin and Dinklage, our titular “brothers”; it felt forced and at times boring throughout the film.
In short, the poor writing was only exacerbated by the sluggish on-screen chemistry
Their arguments felt scripted, which is the exact opposite of what you want to feel in a movie. I was never invested in their family development because the writing never evoked those feelings with the audience. It might be worth watching if you’ve gone through the many streaming catalogs available, but it shouldn’t be at the top of your do list.
