Online Accounting Software for Your Small Business

Security measures include data encryption, two-step authentication, and 24/7 monitoring at multiple locations. Data is backed up daily across various servers, and regular security audits are performed. Xero used to offer strong customer support, and while there are still a ton of great support resources available, getting in touch with an actual representative is a lot more difficult.

Simplify tax time

Use the demo company to explore Xero’s features, or enter your own business details and data to try it out for real. Xero retains everything you’ve entered when you transfer from a free trial to a subscription. Xero’s bank feed securely imports your business loan agreement transactions into the Xero accounting software each business day.

After a 30-day trial period, Xero will bill a monthly charge of $13 per month for the Early plan, $37 per month for the Growing plan and $70 per month for the Established plan. For free invoicing platforms, consider Zoho Invoice, Square Invoices or PayPal Invoicing, although these platforms provide fewer capabilities. All pricing plans cover the accounting essentials, with room to grow. Simplify your finances and get more done with Xero online accounting software.

Is Xero Right for You or Your Business?

While human error will always play some role in security breaches, you can be confident in your accounting platform when it comes to keeping your information safe. Xero outsourced cfo may be harder to learn than a simpler invoicing platform like Square Invoices or Zoho Invoice. All three plans come with an optional add-on for payroll with Gusto for $40 per month plus $6 per month per person. Gusto is a platform that automates payroll filing for all 50 states in addition to automating payroll taxes, deductions and filings and providing employees with the platform to view pay stubs and W-2s online.

Can I pay for Xero annually?

  1. Xero’s cloud accounting software has features and tools to help you run your small business, so you can spend more time doing what you love.
  2. If using multiple currencies is a priority to you, consider other platforms that offer this capability at a lower cost.
  3. We weigh each section differently to calculate the total star rating.
  4. To its credit Xero does have quite a lot of help and support options at your disposal.

Xero is a cloud based, single ledger, subscription based bookkeeping software package which allows online access to an unlimited number of users. Xero is designed with business owners in mind and enables you to manage your business finances from anywhere in the world (providing you have internet access) without using accounting jargon. If you are on the move, you can access your accounts, check balances, upload receipts and invoice customers from your smartphone or tablet with Xero’s iPhone or Android app.

However, we are disappointed that Xero lacks tax support, doesn’t have more advanced inventory (unless you purchase the Inventory Plus add-on), and doesn’t have more invoice templates. There are no annual contracts, so you can cancel your subscription at any time (although you must give a 30-day notice of your cancellation). While the software is well-organized, it does have a steep learning curve (not as steep as QuickBooks, but it is more difficult to learn than other cloud-based options). It takes quite a while to explore all of the features it has to offer, but once you get acquainted with the software, Xero is fairly easy to use. Getting started is the most difficult part, and it’s this learning curve that lowered our ease of use rating to 3.8/5. Xero no longer includes payroll — although a paid Gusto add-on is available — and it has limited some features (such as expenses and multicurrency support) to its most expensive plan.

Accounting Software Review Methodology

Xero’s accounting software is highly rated among small businesses. Read our 2024 Xero review to find out if it’s the right solution for your business. You can use all Xero’s features, like invoicing, accepting payments and reporting, and add-ons like Xero Projects and Xero Expenses.

Things start out at the Dashboard, which is just that; the area that lets you move into the other sections of the site and from which you can manage the overall way it ticks. The layout is, on the face of it, pretty simple with a user-experience that delivers quick and easy access to core features. These are found via a top menu that houses not only the Dashboard, but Business, Accounting and Contacts options too.
